Pandemic Diaries Week #7
30 April 2020
Update: Since we aren't travelling at the moment, our travel blog has turned into a vague journey through the pandemic and shut downs around the world, or at least whatever part of the world where we're sheltering in place. This week, The Pandemic Diaries continue in New Jersey.
This is a different kind of journey we're on, travelling new and uncharted territory in the year 2020. It's been over 100 years since humanity has seen a global pandemic of this extent, so in some ways, this is a new journey. On the other hand, it does seem as if humanity isn't learning much from the previously recorded experiences such as the horrendous "Spanish flu" of 1918.
But knowing something about pandemics, and keeping in mind that flu season 102 years ago, most of us are not boldly going where others have gone before. Most of us are approaching cautiously and slowly.

Happy May Day!
SIL and I took a break from the pandemic and went to Atlantic City to find some of the murals that have been painted. I'll write a separate blog about our pandemic break, although we definitely practiced social distancing and wore our masks. But it was fun to search out the murals, and at least it was something to do outside the house.

You know how sometimes the weather goes from one extreme to the other? One day it's chilly and cold, the next day hot and humid. Ten or twenty degree jumps from day to day.
I don't know it that's normal for springtime, or part of climate change, or possibly just varies from one part of the country to another.
Having spent my high school and college years on the northwest coast, I got used to cool and damp weather about 85% of the year. Then I spent time in tropical climates, where hot and humid is the standard pretty much year round. Although in those climates, a 70 F (about 20 C) night would feel cold to me.
But this back and forth indecisive weather? Even though I grew up only a few hours away from this part of the east coast, I don't remember this off and on weather syndrome!
